Promoting your high street shop everywhere on the net is a big error

Promoting your high street shop everywhere on the net is a big error

Many shopkeepers I talk with worry over the fact that they don’t have an online shop (or a good-enough-online shop) and are scared to lose customers to e-commerce.

Therefore they promote their physical business EVERYWHERE on the internet, hoping this will lead people who are searching online to their brick-and-mortar businesses.

You are targeting everybody and no one

They use High Streets’ online portals, local government portals, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, blogs, forums, YouTube, Tiktok, Google Ads, Facebook ads, Facebook groups, LinkedIn and so on.

This takes a lot of time and effort and at the same time you are targeting everybody and no one.

The people who are interested in your specific shop won’t be found on all of these things.

It’s up to you to find out where you can find your customers online and then just reach out to them on that specific medium.

It should never be more than 2 channels.

Promoting your local shop everywhere on the net is a big mistake

For example when I was running my local shop I used Facebook, Instagram and YouTube at the beginning.

But very quickly I learnt that my customers were heavy Facebook users hence I stopped the other 2 and focused on Facebook only.

Find out where your customers hang out online and reach out to them on that medium only

For example for the business that I’m running nowadays (helping local store owners like you 🙂 ) we only use Facebook ads and YouTube.

We did a lot of research on our target audience (you!) when we started.

We learnt that Facebook is perfect for our ads and YouTube is a great way to show who I am to those who are looking for a way to get more customers through the door day after day.

Does all of this make sense?

If not, email me HERE and shoot your questions 🙂

Sending you the best of vibes for you and your shop,

xx Mieke
